It was sunshine, smiles and success on the golf course last Friday as the Pedal for Purpose group hosted their first corporate fundraising event.
The group consists of three Newcastle-based firms – Hanro, Naylors and Womble Bond Dickinson – who have joined forces to raise vital funds for St Oswald’s Hospice.
As part of their fundraising efforts, the group held a golf day on May 1st, where 15 teams headed to Close House Golf Club for an 18-hole round, Texas Scramble style, led by in-house golf professional, Mark Chambers.
The day opened with delicious breakfast sandwiches and refreshments in the club house, before Libby Fryer, Manager – Philanthropy, St Oswald’s Hospice, shared a short talk about St Oswald’s Hospice and the positive impact of corporate support.
Following a sun-drenched round of golf, complete with various games and competitions along the way, players were welcomed back to the clubhouse for a well-earned BBQ meal.
A prize auction and raffle draw, plus the all-important winners’ presentation rounded off the day.

Support like this is invaluable and the funds raised will help ensure the care and support provided free of charge by the Hospice continues to be available to those who need it.”
The Pedal for Purpose group aims to raise £50,000 which will fully fund one hospice nurse for one year. Nine individuals from across the three companies will take on the Coast to Coast challenge in September, each having been touched by hospice care and the work of St Oswald’s Hospice in the North East.
