Internationally acclaimed artist transforms our Gateshead charity shop

Our Gateshead shop received a huge glow-up last week. This is thanks to a striking 95ft long mural created by internationally acclaimed artist Dan Kitchener.

The artwork, which depicts a vibrant cityscape scene, now towers above our charity shop on West Street. It has been commissioned as part of Gateshead Council’s Off The Walls Project, an initiative designed to transform the town centre with bold artwork, bringing new life, creativity and culture to public spaces.

When we opened our Gateshead charity shop last year, we wanted to create a space that felt bold, bright and modern. Dan’s artwork captures that vision perfectly.

Shop Manager Caitlin said:
“The mural reflects the personality of our shop as it has a very positive energy! It shows a busy community, people and vibrancy – which I think matches how people see the shop.”
“Customers have had a very positive reaction and the painting has created a buzz within the shop and on West Street.”
“On days where Dan was painting we did have some crowds building up outside! Also, our volunteers have loved watching this come together, one of them has said every day since it started “eee isn’t that lovely”.

We are incredibly proud to have Dan Kitchener’s work featured above our charity shop and are delighted to support Gateshead Council’s Off The Walls Project.
