Whickham’s window wins best in ‘snow’

Our shop team in Whickham ended 2023 on a high as they won the Whickham Rotary Club’s annual Christmas window competition.

The winter wonderland-themed display was created by retail volunteer Jo Williams who’s been volunteering in the shop since 2022. When asked what inspired this year’s window design, she said:

“There are two things that determine our window designs – our imagination and what we get donated. Apart from the odd bit of spray snow and a few pieces from home, everything we used for our festive window was donated stock.

“Last year we had a damaged figurine handed in and I found something that would fit into his hand to look like a lantern. We also had a few large cuddly reindeer donated so we put them to one side and the winter wonderland theme was the result!

“Our Manager, Dawn, is very supportive and is always on the lookout for items she thinks may be appropriate for our Christmas window and other displays throughout the year, such as Easter.”

Dawn Wills, Manager of the Whickham shop, added:

“Jo plays an integral part in making all of our beautiful window displays. We certainly would not have won the Rotary Club Christmas window competition without her creative flare and vision.”

As a winning prize, a generous £100 has been donated to St Oswald’s Hospice!

The team are already pane-stakingly plotting and planning for this year’s Christmas window competition.

Let’s keep our fingers crossed for winning windows two years in a row!
