Team DHL raise funds for St Oswald's Hospice

A rainy day at Kielder Reservoir did not dampen the spirits of team DHL as they set out to raise funds for St Oswald’s Hospice.

The group of four, including Dean, Anth, Gareth and Michael, had decided to walk the perimeter path around the reservoir as a team building exercise but decided to see if they could generate some sponsorship to donate to a local charity.

On the day, it was a cold and chilly start for the team as they set off on the 19 mile circular walk but things soon warmed up as the day went on and the team were able to take in gorgeous views across the reservoir and surrounding areas.

Dean said, “It was a great experience and we all thoroughly enjoyed it. The last 3 miles were the hardest as tiredness set in but being there together, we spurred each other on.”

It took around 6 and a half hours to complete the walk and to date, the team have raised in the region of £2000.

Post-walk celebrations included a refreshing pint or two at the local pub and a relaxing evening spent in the motorhome, hired by the lads to stay in especially for the trip.

Dean added, “We’re thrilled to have raised such a good amount for the Hospice. The work they do is invaluable and we’re pleased to be able to contribute in this way.”

Jill Hackworth, Fundraising Co-ordinator, said “We’re really grateful to the team at DHL for choosing to support the Hospice and we’re looking forward to working together again.”

In 2024, the team, along with a few more of their colleagues, are hoping to take on the Coast to Coast challenge, again in support of St Oswald’s Hospice.
