Aged 24, Oliver died unexpectedly in 2023, due to Sudden Adult Death Syndrome, leaving behind his partner, Eden, and young daughter Scarlett.
Since then, the family, who are from Newcastle, have been supported by St Oswald’s Hospice, coming along to our Family Support Centre to help navigate their grief together. Six-year-old Scarlett also attends our Children’s Bereavement Service, accessing support following the loss of her dad.
Participants donned colourful fancy dress; Scarlett herself chose to dress up as a Barbie to take part in the celebration of her dad’s life.
Eden said, “The walk was an amazing day, full of love and remembrance for Oliver. We will definitely make it an annual event, as it’s for such a great cause.”
Oliver’s parents carried fundraising buckets, decorated with his picture, and together the group raised a brilliant £423 for St Oswald’s Hospice.
Karen Maclennan, Senior Fundraiser at St Oswald’s Hospice, said, “Thank you to everyone for taking part and helping to raise money to support the work of the Hospice. We’re all so grateful to all who donated.”
To create a lasting tribute, Eden and Scarlett have also chosen to dedicate a leaf in our hospice Tribute Garden, engraved with Oliver’s name. This garden offers a peaceful space to reflect, enjoy a cup of tea and to remember loved ones.
