Held at Ramside Hall, County Durham, 21 teams took part in Northern Bear’s annual golf day. Starting off with breakfast sandwiches, players were fueled up and ready to hit the fairway.
As ever, there was plenty of healthy competition around the course as well as the customary drinks and pies from the halfway house.
Following the golf, players were able to enjoy a delicious dinner, entertainment and live auction, before the winning team was crowned.
Reflecting on the day, John Davies, CEO, Northern Bear PLC, said, “This day is a firm favourite and we look forward to it every single year. The enthusiasm of the players and the support from the individuals and companies represented is very much appreciated.
“St Oswald’s Hospice is a special place and we’re pleased support the hospice as members of their Better Together Business Club and through fundraising. Thank you to everyone who has helped contribute to this fantastic sum.
I’d like to congratulate the winning team Isoler team 4, and our runners up, Wensley Roofing and in third place, Isoler team 3.
During the evening, Linsey Preston gave a moving talk to shine a light on the difference St Oswald’s makes to her family.
Linsey explained, “My daughter, Gracie, was just 8 weeks old when she first visited the Children and Young Adults Service at the hospice. When Gracie was diagnosed, we were really frightened and didn’t know what was going to happen or how much time we would have with her. Every day felt precious and we came to the hospice for help, respite and support.
The team were amazing. They helped me learn how to look after Gracie and supported us with lots of questions we had to ask. It made such a difference having people who understood.”
Gracie is now 16 years old and has grown up enjoying monthly short breaks in our Children and Young Adults Service. The team has given Gracie the specialist care she needs, while giving Linsey and her family reassurance, guidance and time to rest.
“To see Gracie turn 16 means everything. The hospice has been there for her since she was a tiny baby, helping her enjoy the things she loves, from music therapy and the sensory room to getting out on trips.”
It’s thanks to support like this from companies such as Northern Bear, that St Oswald’s Hospice can continue support people like Gracie and her family, when they need it the most.
