Fundraising
Working alongside our Director of Finance, Kathryn Maclaren, Lucy oversees our Finance and Purchasing teams. Together, they help make sure the Hospice’s finances are carefully managed and provide teams across the organisation with the information and support they need.
For Lucy, joining St Oswald’s Hospice was about much more than taking on a new role. Having experienced the loss of friends and family members, including her mum more recently, she wanted to use her experience somewhere she could give something back.
“St Oswald’s Hospice stood out as an organisation that supports people through one of life’s most difficult chapters with compassion, dignity and excellence. Our involvement in research and improving end-of-life care is something that’s very close to my heart too.”
A career with purpose
Lucy has spent much of her career working for organisations with a strong social purpose, across areas including education, employment and housing, before most recently working in the property sector in Newcastle.
Since joining the team, she has been surprised by the sheer variety of work happening across the Hospice and the role Finance plays in supporting it.
“There is always something happening and, because almost everything has a financial aspect, the Finance team gets involved in supporting such a wide range of work, often behind the scenes.”
Lucy’s first few weeks have also given her the chance to learn more about the different services we provide and the people we support.
An induction tour was a particular highlight, giving her a greater insight into the difference our services make to patients and families.
She said:
“It really brought the Hospice to life and helped me understand the lasting impact the Hospice has on patients, families and the wider community.”
Lucy has also been struck by the passion, kindness and dedication of the people she’s met so far and is looking forward to getting even more involved in Hospice life.
We’re delighted to have Lucy as part of the team and wish her the very best of luck as she takes on the Great North Run for Team St Oswald’s Hospice.
