Meet Brian - 100 Miler

Brian has supported St Oswald’s Hospice for number of years and has completed many challenges, from the Great North Run to the London Marathon and now he is taken on the 100 Miler!

“I’ve supported St Oswald’s Hospice for a number of years now having already completed the Great North Run, and London Marathon fundraising for this fantastic cause. The 100 Miler seemed like a great new challenge to try next.

“I’m not much of a runner really, so I found the marathons a challenge, and I think it will be the same with cycling. Although I have owned a bike for 24 years … it has spent 23 of those in the garage!

“I thought it was time to clean off the dust and what better way to get back on the bike than to sign up for this new challenge, while fundraising to help all the fantastic staff carry on with their invaluable work helping others. This will be my first ever cycle challenge and I am really looking forward to it, while hopefully meeting a few new friends along the way as I have done in the running events.

“I am looking forward to this challenge due to the fact it’s all so new! And I don’t know how I will manage the distance of 100 miles from Annan to Tynemouth in a day and will my bike hold out? However I also know all of these concerns will be blown away on the day as we all come together as a team helping each other along as one big family.

“I think the ride and the scenery will be awesome and best of all seeing the finish line come into view with the staff from St Oswald’s Hospice cheering us on, hopefully with a nice cuppa tea and a custard cream to dunk!

“If you’re wondering if you should do the challenge? I’d say just do it! Put your best foot forward and soak up love and help from all of us on the team and you’ll be just fine. Get on your bike today and cycle because you never know what tomorrow brings!”
