St Oswald’s Hospice was successfully selected as Malhotra Group’s Charity of the Year and, since announcing the partnership, staff from across the group have been involved in raising vital funds in a variety of ways.
To launch the partnership, a special event was hosted by the Malhotra team in Newcastle with around 40 guests in attendance.
Speaking at the event, Atul Malhotra, Chief Operating Officer at Malhotra Group, said, “Since 2016 we have supported a variety of charities, all of whom do fantastic work, with care, service and kindness – and the same can most certainly be said of our new charity partner.
“St Oswald’s Hospice’s exceptional team supports children, adults and families at the most difficult of times – with expertise, gentleness and with genuine human warmth.
“They are quite simply amazing and we at Malhotra Group will do all we can over the coming year to raise as much money for them – and awareness of them – as we can.”
Initiatives have included raffles, office bake sales and sweepstakes as well as selecting a number of food and drink items from their menus, where a donation will be made to St Oswald’s Hospice each time an order is placed.
In addition, the Group have offered St Oswald’s Hospice complimentary use of meeting rooms at the Three Mile Inn, Gosforth, as well as hosting one of the Hospice’s popular corporate networking events for free.
Speaking about the partnership, Steph Edusei, Chief Executive at St Oswald’s Hospice said, “I’m thrilled that St Oswald’s is the chosen charity for 2025. Good quality palliative care is needed, and will continue to be even more in demand in the future.
This partnership means such a lot to us as a charity and I know that, together, we can make a real difference in people’s lives.”
The fundraising pot has attracted an additional £500 donation from BlueLeaf, a cleaning supplies company. Melton Care Home, in Gosforth, which sits within the Group’s care arm, Prestwick Care, placed the 1000th order with BlueLeaf and as a thank you, the company made a donation to the Charity of Year partnership.
Over the summer, Malhotra Group’s plans include a family fun day and a summer fayre plus some seasonal activities as we approach the winter.
In July, a group from the company’s Runhead venue in Ryton, Gateshead, put their best foot forward for a 9 mile walk, to raise funds and to remember loved ones.
“It turned out to be a really successful event. Almost everyone knows someone who has been cared for by St Oswald’s Hospice so it’s been great to do something to raise funds and give something back.”
Lorna Barber, a cleaner at The Runhead, took part in the walk in memory of her mum, Lynne, who was cared for at St Oswald’s Hospice following a terminal cancer diagnosis.
Reflecting, Lorna said, “My mum was looked after at the Hospice in 1998. The care she received was unreal and my brother and I will never forget how kind and caring the people there were.
I’m walking for them, and in memory of my mum, who I hope would be really proud of me.”
On August 31st, The Three Mile Inn, Gosforth will be holding their annual family fun day from 11am – 2pm.
Alice Middleton, Sales and Marketing Manager at Malhotra plc, says, “There really will be something for everyone. You can expect lots of games, activities, live music, face painting, tombola plus the chance to pet a selection of animals, courtesy of Animal Antics.”
The fun day also includes a barbecue and plant stall, with some fantastic prizes to be won from Legoland, Lane7 and an afternoon tea hamper, to name only a few!
Sophie Hindhaugh, Senior Fundraiser at St Oswald’s Hospice added, “It’s great to be working with Malhotra Group plc and to see the range of activities planned for both staff and the wider community to get involved in.
“Thank you to everyone who has participated so far, your support is so appreciated.”
