Kans and Kandy help to make our sensory room sparkle

We are delighted to welcome a brand new company to our Better Together Business Club and the St Oswald’s Hospice family after they showed their support to our charity with a generous donation to our recent ‘Good Night’s Sleep Appeal’.

Kans and Kandy Group are headquartered in Durham and were founded in 2000. The Group operates three distinct divisions, each with a set of values steeped in the mission of their B Corp Certification. They are passionate about supporting local and global good causes through their charitable trust, so when our Corporate Fundraising Manager Sonia Graham connected with their Co-founder and Managing Director Ian Marley, to tell him more about our appeal to fund specialist sensory equipment for our Children and Young Adult’s service,  he and his company were keen to help.

Better Together Business Club Success

Thanks to a generous donation of £5,000 from Kans and Kandy, we are now able to go ahead with the improvements to our sensory room, which will benefit so many of the young people, aged 0-25, who currently use our services. As well as their gift to support our appeal, Kans and Kandy have joined our Better Together Business Club as a way to give back and continue their commitment to local causes.

We set up the Better Together Business Club as a way for regional firms to support the vital work of St Oswald’s Hospice and the people we care for.

As well as a standard monthly membership fee of just £20 per company, members can take part in their own fundraising activities and events in support of the hospice, throughout the year. As their fundraising total grows, companies can move from a basic Member to a Champion and eventually, an All Star.

As a result of their support of our appeal, Kans and Kandy join Wingrove Motor Company and Miller Homes, ScS Group, and Northern Bear by becoming a member of the Club’s All Star tier, which includes companies that have contributed more than £3,000 to the Hospice throughout the year.

Ian Marley, Co-Founder and Managing Director said:

“Our own personal values and beliefs drive the work of the Kans and Kandy Charitable Trust. Every year 10% of our net profits from Kans and Kandy Wholesale Ltd are donated to the Trust to help projects both in our local communities and across the world. We are committed to continuous improvement of the governance that shapes our values and we are dedicated to upholding the standards of a B Corp by supporting people and the planet.

“We are absolutely delighted to be a member of the St. Oswald’s Better Together Business Club and to support a hospice rooted in the North East where we all live and work. We hope and believe our initial donation will be the start of a long-term partnership.”

Jane Hogan, Head of Fundraising at St Oswald’s Hospice  commented:

“Having the support of businesses within our community means the world to us and allows us to continue with our vital work with local adults, children, and their families. Kans and Kandy’s recent donation in support of our appeal to refurbish our sensory room will allow this special space to be upgraded, providing new equipment that has been carefully chosen to engage, excite, and stimulate the young people who come to the hospice for short respite breaks.

“Our Children and Young Adult’s service team aims to help our young service users to create magical memories and experiences during their stays with us, and thanks to Kans and Kandy, and all of the other generous donors to our appeal, we can get our much loved sensory space sparkling again.”

“We look forward to developing a long-term partnership with Kans and Kandy and are excited  at the possibilities of being better together.”
