Great North Run success for Team St Oswald's

The first event since 2019 to return to the original route from Newcastle to South Shields was blessed with a fine day and thousands turned up to line the pavements and cheer on the runners.

Back at the St Oswald’s Hospice charity village tent, a team of volunteers and staff were waiting to give the runners a hero’s welcome. From Lee, our first (and very quick) runner back, to those who walked or braved wearing costumes, each runner was cheered into the tent and treated to massages, snacks and a well needed seat!

Such a special day needs to be a team effort and there were lots of people involved in making the day a success:

Thanks to headline sponsor ScS for sponsoring our running vests. All of our brilliant volunteers deserve a special mention for the special welcome they gave to all of our runners at our tent, including Aimee and Holli from Together for Short Lives and Morrisons and our brilliant cheering point band, Ofuobi Men’s Cultural Group, a division of Ndi Igbo North East England.

Refreshments in our tent at the Charity Village were kindly provided Ringtons, Greggs, Morrisons, Asda and Barry’s Eggs and Veg. Special shout out to volunteers Eileen and Winn for their brilliant bakes which our runners raved about.

Our runners were treated to much needed massages thanks to Kirsty from Crown Massage Therapy by KW and Paul from Feel the Knead Regular Massage Therapy – hopefully it’s helped make getting up this morning a little more comfortable!

But most of all, thanks must go to the dedicated team of runners who fundraised and trained to take part in the Great North Run for the hospice. It was a pleasure to meet you face to face at the tent, hear your stories and join in with your celebrations, We think you are all fantastic and can’t thank you enough.
