A sun-drenched Sunday raises £16,500 at Blagdon Open Gardens

Last weekend, we had the pleasure of returning to the Blagdon Estate, Northumberland to kick off our 40th birthday celebrations, for a special Open Gardens event in support of St Oswald’s Hospice.

Kindly opened to the public by Lord and Lady Ridley, over 1000 people attended the unique 27 acre gardens, featuring woodland walks, follies and sculptures, stunning floral displays and wetlands.

Visitors were able to peruse the historic courtyard, which was filled with stalls from vendors across the region, selling local goods and produce.

A number of vintage cars and vehicles were also on display, adding a unique touch to the day.

Throughout the event, live music was provided by Bangshees, Isaac Knox and Jeanie and the Jolly Boys.

Claire Young, Community and Events Fundraising Volunteer, St Oswald’s Hospice said, “It was a brilliant day, and it was great to welcome so many visitors to Blagdon. Seeing so many people come along with their families and friends, enjoying the gardens was wonderful.

Congratulations to the winner of our prize draw – Mrs Whitehead – who won a fabulous bouquet of flowers, courtesy of Katherine’s Flowers.”

As part of the event, visitors were able to learn more about the work of St Oswald’s Hospice and the impact of their donations and support.

Sonia Graham, Fundraising Manager – Corporate, St Oswald’s Hospice, added, “It currently costs £12million per year to deliver the range of care services at St Oswald’s Hospice, with around half of this needing to be raised through charitable giving.

Events like this are a great opportunity to connect with people and let them know just how invaluable their support is, and how much it means, to the Hospice. Thank you to everyone who came along, and to Lord and Lady Ridley for opening their gardens.”

All of us at St Oswald’s Hospice would like to extend a big thank you to all the staff and volunteers who gave their time, helping ensure the smooth and efficient running of this event.

Thank you to all the vendors and stall holders including The Busty Bakery, Wonderful Whippy LTD, Oak Apiary Honey Farm, Butterscotch Lane Crafts, DCC Events, Paw Pantry, Pet Portraits by Lawrence and the musicians who provided entertainment, contributing to a very successful day.
