A decade on the green: Northern Bear tees up for their tenth annual charity golf day in support of St Oswald’s Hospice

Specialist Building Services firm, Northern Bear PLC, recently hosted a well-attended corporate golf day at Ramside Hall in support of St Oswald’s Hospice, continuing their long-standing commitment to the charity.

Held on May 29th, the damp weather did not hinder teams getting into the swing of things. Beginning with breakfast sandwiches, guests were able to catch up and connect before heading out for a shotgun start on the course. Throughout the round, players enjoyed refreshments from the halfway house and a delicious selection of pies.

After the golf, guests gathered for a three-course dinner, followed by a prize auction and entertainment plus the all important scores on the doors, with the winning teams announced.

Speaking about the day, John Davies, CEO at Northern Bear, said, “I’m delighted to announce that this year’s golf day raised a total of £20,000 for St Oswald’s Hospice.

We are pleased to be able to support the hospice through our charity golf day, and I’m proud of everyone who played their part in what was a truly memorable day on the golf course.”

As part of the evening, guests were able to hear a little more about how their support impacts the work at St Oswald’s Hospice.

Jill, mum to Lucy, and Megan, mum to Sophia, were invited to speak about their daughters, who both attend St Oswald’s Hospice’s Children and Young Adults unit for short breaks each month. During their stays, the girls have become good friends and look forward to spending time together at the Hospice, enjoying lots of fun activities and making memories.

Lucy’s mum, Jill, shared:

“If Sophia is staying at the Hospice at the same time, they’ll often have their beds set up together in the lounge so that they’re able to watch films together. It’s the closest thing she gets to having a sleepover.”

Northern Bear’s continued support plays a valuable role in helping St Oswald’s Hospice deliver its services to patients, their families and local communities across the North East.

Sonia Graham, Fundraising Manager – Corporate, at St Oswald’s Hospice added, “It’s fantastic to have the support of Northern Bear and to have been part of their hugely successful golf day.

The atmosphere and sportsmanship at this year’s event was great. I’d like to take this opportunity to congratulate the winning teams and to thank everyone involved on behalf of St Oswald’s Hospice. Your kindness and generosity will certainly help to keep our doors open for all who need us.”

To date, Northern Bear has raised a massive £145,000 through fundraising and events, in support of the work of St Oswald’s Hospice.
