Why I’m a Giving Day Champion – Karen’s story

“I’ve been volunteering at St Oswald’s in the Lymphoedema Outpatients clinic since May 2022. I have worked supporting patients and assisting the practitioners with the management and treatment of the patients’ conditions.

“I had been aware of the Hospice for a long time but didn’t really know much about it and the amazing work it does for so many different people -until I was looking for somewhere to volunteer to help gain experience of working in a clinical environment. I’ve also spent time talking to some of the staff in the Children and Young Adults Department and I’m really in awe of the fantastic work they do- it’s an inspiration.”

“The more time you spend in the Hospice, the more you see how much it is needed, what a difference it can make to the lives of the patients and their families and how brilliant all of the people who work here are. If the fundraising can help the Hospice to keep doing the same amazing work and to make a difference to more people’s lives then it is well worth supporting.

“I would recommend that volunteers, and as many other people as possible really, sign up as Champions. It’s easy to do and, fingers crossed, when the target is reached it will be a great feeling to have been part of the success and to know it.”
