Family and Carers

We’re committed to supporting the whole family including parents, carers and siblings.

At St Oswald’s Hospice, we don’t just care for young people who have a progressive life limiting conditions, we’re here for their families and carers too.

Join us for regular fun, friendly and supportive activities and events designed for families to feel part of St Oswald’s Hospice and better understand our service and the team who care for your child, grandchild or sibling during residential short stays or through our Outreach Service.

Our events and activities are also a great way for families to get to know each other.

If you need to stay at the hospice, we also have family accommodation available on with en-suite bedrooms and a communal lounge area and kitchen.

  • Our team is always here to listen and offer advice
  • Join our fun-filled seasonable parties for the whole family.
  • Our Sibz Days are for brothers and sisters and packed with treats, fun and attention.
  • We can offer Complementary Therapies that allow parents and carers time to relax and recharge while we care for your child or young adult.
  • Wherever possible, we invite families to join our specials outings and trips so that magical moments are created together.

We look to hold 3 dedicated Sibz Days a year.

We let families know about our events via post, email or telephone.

Events are also shared on our Family Board, located in the Children and Young Adults Service, and on our Children and Young Adults Facebook Group.

A range of complementary therapies are available at the hospice including massage, Reki and more.

In most cases, yes. This helps us manage and plan the events.

This will depend on the activity. A member of the team will discuss options with you.
