We were delighted to hear the news that NorthStandard has donated £5,000, which will fund more than 300 hours of specialist bereavement support for adults and children, at the toughest of times.
Our Bereavement Support Team offers support to children and adults after the death of a loved one, whether or not they have received care at the hospice. Many people find it helpful to talk through their feelings with someone independent.
At St Oswald’s Hospice, bereavement care aims to help people after a loved one dies. Bereavement Support Workers are trained to support people as they process complex feelings around grief and adapt to their new life.
Our team offer one-to-one support, group sessions, remembrance services, bereavement support to children and advice around the needs of bereaved children. Group sessions are usually held at St Oswald’s Hospice, where people have the chance to share feelings and experiences in a warm and welcoming setting with others who understand.
In 2022/23, 114 individual adults accessed bereavement support with a total of 684 sessions, not to mention the children we have supported too.
Although our team try hard not to turn anyone away, this service is stretched and we often have waiting lists. This gift of £5,000 from North Standard will give a real boost to our Bereavement Support Services and allow us to reach more people across our community, when they need us most.
NorthStandard has been a long-term supporter of St Oswald’s Hospice, and last year were a vital part of the Shaun on the Tyne art trail, by becoming our trail Community Partner. Their support allowed some local community organisations to take part in the trail where they may not have otherwise been able to.
Chloe Kelly, CSR Coordinator at NorthStandard said:
“NorthStandard are proud to support St Oswald’s Hospice. We are inspired by the passion that is shown by everyone, working tirelessly to make it a place for living. They are always looking for creative ways to make the most of every moment and to create memories.
“The support that they give to individuals and families, at the time that they need it the most is crucial, and we have chosen to specifically support the bereavement service at this time. The service supports those left behind, whether their loved one used the services of St Oswald’s or not, showing true commitment to support anyone suffering the loss of a loved one.”
Thank you to NorthStandard for their kindness and support of our Bereavement Support Service and all of the people who benefit from it.
