After lots of planning and preparation, we have installed new safety measures and are excited to have reopened the doors to 11 of our shops:

Face coverings

New government guidance has come into force from today (Friday 24th July) meaning that it is now mandatory for customers to wear face coverings in all of our shops. We’re working hard to keep everyone safe and make your shopping experience as normal and enjoyable as possible, so please bring a face covering with you and sanitise your hands on entry and let’s help to protect each other. Thank you for your support.


Abuse in our shops

During these challenging times for us all, we understand that some people may feel frustrated with some of the safety measures and guidance we’ve had to put in place to be able to re-open our shops and accept donations. We’re currently experiencing a high volume of abusive behaviour towards our staff, volunteers and other customers. St Oswald’s Hospice has a zero tolerance towards this abusive behaviour. If anyone is engaging in abusive behaviour towards our workforce and other customers, we reserve the right to firstly ask you to stop and you may also be asked to leave our premises. Thank you for your cooperation during these difficult times.


Where can I take my donations?

Thank you so much for your patience as we caught up on processing all of your donations we received last week. We are delighted to be able to re-open accepting donations from Wednesday 8th July at the following shops listed below only.

For your convenience we have made some changes to the way we accept them. We ask that you please ring individual shops before bringing any items to check we are able to accept them. Some shops do have a booking system in place now so please do contact us on the following telephone numbers prior to setting off:

Due to having to hold all donations for 72 hours we have limited space available and each shop may have different times and procedures for accepting donations, this is to ensure customer, volunteer and staff safety.

Our onsite donation point also remains closed at the moment. Our patients are amongst the most vulnerable, so please don’t bring any donations on site.

What items are we looking for?

We are looking for all types of clothing, including bags and jewellery, small electrical items and TV’s gym equipment and homeware, gifts and accessories. If you are unsure please speak to a member of our team when you call the shop who will be happy to advise you.


Collection line

We’re delighted to be resuming our Collection Line service from today (Friday 24 July). Please be aware that due to health and safety guidelines and staffing numbers, we will only be bringing you a reduced service for the time being. 

At present, we are only collecting items of furniture and electrical items. To make an enquiry and book a collection, please contact our Collection Line team on 0191 246 8123.  Please leave a message with your name and contact information so a team member can get back to you, due to the reduced staffing levels this may take a day or two.
