Each year, there is an open invitation to charities to submit an application which is then considered by senior leaders and Head Office teams. With a desire to support somewhere local and community focused, St Oswald’s was selected, and felt a natural fit with the Group having a few of their leisure sites based in and around the area, too.
Alice Middleton, Group Events and Marketing Manager at Malhotra Group plc, said, “We’ve absolutely loved supporting St Oswald’s Hospice over the past 12 months. The partnership has brought our teams and our communities together for an amazing cause, and seeing firsthand the impact of support like this has been really special.”
A friendly sense of competition emerged as each site excitedly planned and prepared a series of events and activities for staff, their families and people within the community to take part in.
Alice shared, “The family fun day hosted by The Runhead, Ryton, was a huge success with lots of entertainment. It was the first time they’d held an event like this, and everyone was so enthusiastic. The feedback from the local community was wonderful, too.
The Three Mile Inn also held a fantastic event – Return of the Reindeer – at Christmas. It’s always popular but this time, it was made even more special because we were supporting St Oswald’s, which is right at the heart of the Gosforth community. We were privileged to hear from customers about their own personal connection to the Hospice.”
As part of our Charity of the Year partnerships, staff from partner organisations are invited in for a short tour of the hospice, to see how vital their support is and to give a deeper insight into hospice care, and how it is often much more than most people think.
Alice said, “Visiting the hospice completely changed perceptions and removed the stigma around what people think hospice care is. Rather than being gloomy, it feels like a real home from home; it’s warm, welcoming and full of kindness.
The staff are incredibly special and dedicated. I will always be in awe of what they do.”
Through their partnership, Malhotra Group plc raised £10,322.
Jill Hackworth, Fundraiser – Business Partnerships, said, “Thank you to everyone at Malhotra Group for their support over the last year. Partnerships like this are important and really do help to ensure hospice care continues to be available for all who need it, now and in the future.”
