Every step counts as Miller Homes North East raise £5,000 for St Oswald’s Hospice

“It’s a great way to come together and for us in the North East region, it’s lovely to be able to give something to a fantastic local charity that really does make such a big difference to the lives of all who need their care and support.” – Trudy Alexander, Administrator and Receptionist at Miller Homes.

Miller Homes have supported St Oswald’s Hospice over the last five years, since the Hospice was selected as the North East region’s Charity of the Year. Since then, the company has become members of the Better Together Business Club, as well as participating in a variety of events to help raise money.

Earlier this year, a whopping £10,000 was raised as part of the Miller Homes ‘Active April’ initiative. ‘Active April’ is a nationwide initiative for all Miller Homes employees, with offices coming together within each region to raise money for their corporate charity partner and their chosen charity.

Every mile walked is matched by a £1 donation from the company, up to a maximum of £10,000 and this year, the North East region came top of the leaderboard.

Trudy said, “Whether it’s one mile or one hundred, every single one counts, and we were all really excited to see the leaderboard update every week. When we came top, everyone was delighted.”

To help reach their total, staff took part in lunchtime wellbeing walks, did extra steps when working on site and one person even took part in a marathon.

Jill Hackworth, Business Partnerships Fundraiser at St Oswald’s Hospice, said, “A huge thank you and well done from all of us here at the Hospice to Trudy and the Miller Homes team. They’ve raised a fantastic amount through the Active April initiative and beyond, and we’re all so grateful for their continued support.”

Over the course of their partnership with St Oswald’s Hospice, Miller Homes has raised a staggering £42,000 to date.

Reflecting on the partnership, Trudy said, “It’s a fantastic relationship that we’ve built up with St Oswald’s Hospice. The team take the time to come to our offices, to catch up with us and find out what we’re up to, they even come along to support the events we’re putting on. It’s lovely to feel so valued and connected, and it’s a pleasure to visit the Hospice, too.”
