Held on March 16th, the Carabao Cup Final Family Funday, organised by Ben Fearon — Better Together Business Club (BTBC) member and Director at Fusion Power Solutions Ltd — and his wife Sarah, turned match day into a community celebration.
Hosted at the Grand Hotel Gosforth Park, the event attracted over 400 attendees enjoying hours of family-friendly fun, all leading up to the thrilling Carabao Cup final where Newcastle United finally lifted the trophy.
From face painting, temporary tattoos, and craft corners for the kids, to basketball hoops, a putting competition, and a high-stakes penalty shootout, there was something for everyone. There was also the opportunity for attendees to try their luck at the tombola and get involved in a prize auction which included signed NUFC shirts to overnight stays, hot tub hire, artwork, and beauty vouchers.
One highlight was a live ‘Bommels Bingo’ — think family-friendly Bongo Bingo — hosted by the Hazlewood Primary School headteacher, complete with music, laughs, and backup dancers!
As kick-off neared, the DJ spun classic NUFC tunes for the ultimate pre-match warm-up before the game was broadcast on four big screens. After the final whistle, and with victory secured, the night transformed into an Ibiza-style club celebration, keeping the party going until 10pm.
Thanks to generous sponsorship from Fusion Power Solutions Ltd and Keepmoat, 100% of the event’s proceeds — a fantastic £4,723.41 each — went directly to support St Oswald’s Hospice and Hazlewood GO.
“All the hard work and late nights were worthwhile to see all the kids having so much fun and the smiles on everyone’s faces,” said Ben Fearon. “It was incredible to see how a simple idea turned into something so impactful in just four weeks!”
Stacey Wilson, Events Manager at Grand Hotel and fellow BTBC member, echoed the praise:
“Ben had a vision, and what he and Sarah pulled off in just four weeks was nothing short of remarkable. The turnout, the energy, and the generosity were truly inspiring.”
With a range of support from local volunteers, Hospice supporters and the community, this event was a true celebration.
Sophie Hindhaugh, Senior Fundraiser at St Oswald’s Hospice added, “We’re so grateful for Ben, Sarah and all who contributed to such a fantastic event. Their support means the world to us here at St Oswald’s Hospice and helps us to keep on doing what we do for our patients and their families across the North East.”
