Beginning in early 2025, following a staff vote, St Oswald’s Hospice was selected as the 2025 Charity of the Year (COTY) with the firm’s charity committee having already mapped out a fantastic plan of activities to help raise awareness, and much needed funds, to support the work of the Hospice.
Bethany Herbertson, Associate in the Dispute Resolution team and Chair of Hay & Kilner’s CSR committee, said, “”Each year, our people nominate and vote for our Charity of the Year, and St Oswald’s Hospice received overwhelming support in this process. It’s a cause that clearly resonates with our team, and we’re proud to have the opportunity to support the Hospice and the incredible work they do across the region. We’re really looking forward to continuing our fundraising efforts throughout the rest of the year.”
The launch event in February took the form of a quiz at the firm’s office at The Lumen, part of the Newcastle Helix complex, and was attended by staff and representatives from the St Oswald’s Hospice fundraising team.
During the evening, Sophie Hindhaugh, Senior Fundraiser – Corporate at St Oswald’s Hospice, introduced the charity, “The support of Hay & Kilner means the world and because of partnerships like this, we’re able to help secure the future of our Hospice for generations to come, together.
At St Oswald’s we care for people of all ages with life limiting, and sometimes complex, conditions, as well as supporting their loved ones. Thank you for pledging your support.”
Over the last six months, several office based fundraising activities have taken place including sporting event sweepstakes, staff games and quizzes, dress down days and the ever-popular bake sales.
Hay & Kilner joined St Oswald’s Hospice for the Big Hike on 7th June – with a member of the team still to complete the hike in September– and despite the inclement weather, they all had a great time taking part.
One team member, John Morgan, completed not only the hike but an additional cycle challenge, clocking up a total of 120km.
In June, Charlie Danjoux, Corporate Solicitor at Hay & Kilner assembled a football team with his fellow colleagues to take part in a charity football tournament in partnership with Newcastle Young Professionals Forum.
And that’s not all! For the second half of their partnership, Hay & Kilner have plenty of seasonal fundraising activities planned, including a wine tasting evening and a quiz night, as well as a group of runners joining Team St Oswald’s for this year’s Great North Run.
Sophie added, “We’re absolutely thrilled to be working with such a passionate and enthusiastic company, who have already done so much to support St Oswald’s Hospice. We’re especially excited to celebrate with their Great North Runners in our charity village tent at the end of the race.
A huge thank you to everyone who has taken part in these activities so far, and those getting involved in the coming months. You’re all brilliant!” If you’re inspired by Hay & Kilner and would like to explore corporate partnership opportunities with St Oswald’s Hospice, we’d love to hear from you.
