Northern Region Palliative Care Physicians Group Meeting

Social Inequality, Trauma and Conflict

Collaboration, partnership-working and idea-sharing underpins everything we do at St Oswald’s Hospice. In November 2025, we hosted a meeting of the Northern Region Palliative Care Physicians Group (NRPCPG), a network of regional palliative care consultants. Under the theme “Palliative Care and Context: Social Inequality, Trauma and Conflict”, we explored how best to deliver person-centred care, and creative approaches to make our care more accessible and inclusive for patients and families who have experienced trauma or inequity.

The meeting generated some great discussion and reflection, and many attendees identified changes they could make that would improve support for patients and families.

The speakers included:

  • Dr Maddy French, Senior Research Fellow in Palliative Care at the International Observatory on End-of-Life Care at Lancaster University
  • Dr Danielle Wilson, Consultant Clinical Psychologist, NuTH
  • Dr Yincent Tse, Consultant Paediatric Nephrologist at Great North Children’s Hospital
  • Davina Radford, Spiritual Care and Community Projects Lead – Health Inequalities, St Oswald’s Hospice
