Who We Are
St Oswald’s Children’s Unit is registered to provide a specialist residential short break service to children with progressive, life shortening conditions. We started welcoming families to stay on the unit in July 2003.
Families from across the region – Northumberland, Tyne & Wear and North Durham – access the specialist services and enjoy the friendly ‘home from home’ environment at St Oswald’s.
We offer a 24 hour, seven days a week service, supported by a team of skilled staff who can meet the complex health, emotional and social needs of the children and their families.
Our Children's facility has been built on land adjacent to our adult service. It has, however, a separate entrance and reception area - ensuring children and families feel safe within their own service. The unit is surrounded by themed gardens.
Our ‘home from home’ environment offers families the choice to either have a break together or the child can stay on their own with us.
Children from birth to eighteen are able to stay at our unit.
