Hospice Ambassador and volunteer Kathy Wilson from Gosforth, has been getting creative with a new hobby to help raise funds for St Oswald’s. We caught up with Kathy to find out more.
Colourful Quilling and decadent cards
I’ve been volunteering for St Oswald’s as a Ward Helper and Ambassador for 24 years now and I wouldn’t give it up for the world. Earlier in the year when we were told we could no longer come in to the hospice to do the supper shift, I was devastated. I knew I would miss the team I work with, all the staff and of course the patients. Luckily, I’m a glass half full sort of person so I decided to do something else for the hospice. That’s when the idea for making the cards came along.
I use a technique called Quilling which uses strips of coloured paper formed into shapes and glued to the card to create lots of different designs. It’s a wonderful hobby and I get so much pleasure out of the creativity, it’s kept me busy for hours! I have been selling the cards to colleagues and friend, so it’s a win, win situation. I enjoy making something beautiful; friends get the enjoyment from having something beautiful and St Oswald’s benefits from everyone’s kind donations
We think you’ll agree with us that these cards are fantastic, and we thank Kathy for giving her time and skills to support us in this way.
