By 10am, the day was in full swing and full of friendly competition as players made their way around the gorgeous 18-hole course. Teams were able to ‘putt’ their skills to the test as they took on additional games including the Longest Drive, Closest to the Pin and Hole in One.
After 4 hours on the course and a game well played, it was time to head back to the No.19 club where a scrumptious barbecue lunch was served before a short talk about the work of St Oswald’s Hospice.
Sophie Hindhaugh, Senior Fundraiser on the Business Team, then invited guest speaker, Beth Maddison, to share some of her story and the impact that St Oswald’s Hospice has had in her life.
“Telling my son, aged 8, that his Dad had cancer is a journey nobody prepares you for. Nobody tells you how to explain death to a child, how to talk about funerals and what to expect,” shared Beth.
“But St Oswald’s was there at a time when no-one else was. They supported us in so many ways. I truly don’t know where we’d be if it wasn’t for the support we received,” Beth added, as the room filled with applause and cheers of encouragement and admiration.
Simon Gordon, Director of Strategy at St Oswald’s Hospice, then took to the floor to lead the auction, which featured a range of exciting items include 3 unique pieces of artwork by Newcastle United super fan group, Wor Flags.
It was then back to Sophie for the big announcement – the winners! It was very tight at the top of the leaderboard.
