Toby Porter, Chief Executive Officer at Hospice UK said:

“We’re pleased to award the ‘Michael Howard Award for Partnership Working’ to St Oswald’s Hospice for their collaboration with Newcastle Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust on the Combined Supportive Care Service.

“The service shows the importance of providing personalised support and is an excellent example of how working in partnership and collaborating to address the needs of a community can have a huge impact on quality of life and quality of care for people at the end of life.”

As the award title suggests this service is a partnership between St Oswald’s Hospice and Newcastle Hospitals. We’ve joined forces to offer patients living with lung cancer or mesothelioma personalised care, support and treatment when they need it most.

The award was accepted on behalf of the team by Dr Felicity Dewhurst, Palliative Care Doctor at St Oswald’s Hospice, and Jenny Welford, Specialist Occupational Therapist at Newcastle Hospitals – who lead the weekly clinic held at our Focus on Living Centre.

We are so proud of the whole team. They really embody our St Oswald’s Hospice story which says, we’re “Experts in care, working together and improving lives for the better.”
