Le Tour de Toby

Le Tour de Toby, heard of it? Wallsend Harriers complete their annual Toby Run each year, covering over 180 miles between them. After having to postpone it last year, the team didn’t want to let St Oswald’s down again (as if they could.) So along came Le Tour de Toby, six Toby legends - Kevin Payne, Dave Collinson, Barry Allsopp, Darryl Roe, Mick Skeldon and Rob Strettle took on the ‘Coast and Castles’ route to cycle over one weekend.

Kevin told us more:

When we couldn’t do our usual annual Toby Run I knew we had to do something to support you. I’ve started cycling more recently so came up with the idea to do a cycle challenge instead, covering the same distance as the Toby run, roughly 180miles.

We chose to do the Castle Coastal route which is from Edinburgh to Tynemouth which is a lovely route. We were very lucky on the first day as it was glorious sunshine, just very pleasant really and nice to ride in. After that, we weren’t as lucky as the heavens opened and it was tanking it down. But I suppose that was part of the challenge, we wanted to support you and we still did it. We actually cycled a little more as we all decided to cycle home after we got to Tynemouth, I think it was closer to 195miles!

Everyone really enjoyed themselves, it was a good achievement. We’re on just over £1500 with all of our donations so far and we’re over the moon with that. We just want to support St Oswald’s, we enjoy doing it and the cause is just amazing, we’re going to keep going and keep supporting you for many years to come.”

Thank you to Kevin and all of the Wallsend Harriers for completing such a mammoth challenge and supporting each other throughout.
