Meet The Team

Consultants

We employ three Specialist Palliative Medicine Consultants: Paul McNamara, Andrew Hughes and Joanna Elverson, and an Associate Specialist in Palliative Medicine: Owen Lever. Claud Regnard (a former Specialist Palliative Medicine Consultant at St Oswald’s) is now an Honorary Consultant.

Our consultants are supported by a team of Doctors, who work alongside our Nursing teams to provide day-to-day medical cover across all our services. The Medical Team are all involved in education and training of staff and students both internally and externally, including undergraduates, postgraduates, GP and specialty training.

Our Consultants are also involved in outreach sessions as part of the palliative care teams across the North East.

Our Team

Andrew has been working as a Consultant at St Oswald’s since 1998. He has a special interest in Lymphoedema management.

Claud joined St Oswald’s in 1986 as our first Medical Director and retired in 2015. He is now an Honorary Consultant for St Oswald’s Hospice.

Jo has been working at St Oswald’s since 2017 having previously worked as a Consultant in Oxfordshire. She has a special interest in working with young adults and people with learning disabilities.

Owen has worked at St Oswald’s since 2008 having previously worked as a GP. He has an interest in Lymphoedema management and also works in the Children and Young Adults Unit.

Kath manages all of St Oswald’s Day Services, which includes our Focus on Living Centre, Complementary Therapy and our Lymphoedema Service. She is a Lymphoedema Nurse Specialist and Lecturer at Northumbria University.

Anne leads the nursing team on the Adult Inpatient Service, co-ordinating the multi-disciplinary team and managing our 15 bed unit. Anne joined St Oswald’s 25 years ago as a Team Leader. She was appointed as Matron in March 2020.

Holly Smith is our Acting Matron – Children and Young Adults Service. Holly heads our team of Nurses, therapists, care support workers and administrators.
