Good luck to everyone taking on The Big Hike in support of St Oswald’s Hospice patients and families this September.

Participants will be tackling a 20km hike along Hadrian’s Wall, Northumberland, in partnership with Challenge Northumberland, and with the support of Northumberland National Park and Mountain Rescue Teams.

What you need to know

  • When? Sunday 21st September 2025
  • Where? Walltown Visitor Centre to Housesteads Visitor Centre, Northumberland
  • What? A 20km (12.4 mile) guided fundraising hike along Hadrian’s Wall, with stops at landmarks along the way
  • Why? To challenge yourself, enjoy beautiful scenery and show your support of the families we care for

Please note: While we make every effort to ensure our events go ahead as planned, we reserve the right to cancel or amend events due to circumstances beyond our control, such as adverse weather conditions, with all proceeds continuing to support our vital charitable work.

Your fundraising target

This challenge has a suggested fundraising target of £150 per hiker. Your £35 registration fee covers all of our event costs, but we ask that you aim to fundraise £150 which will go directly towards care for the adults and children who rely on our services and general running costs.

 

What your £150 could pay for:

of nursing care for an adult staying on our inpatient unit

12 bereavement support sessions

12 bereavement support sessions

for a child struggling with the loss of a loved one

20 days of nutritious meals

20 days of nutritious meals

home cooked food for a patient staying with us
