Fantastic feedback for our new Ambulatory Care Service

The service sees patients two days a week in our Focus on Living Centre and supports people with life-limiting conditions, coming to us for planned procedures, such as blood and iron transfusions.

To find out more about the new service and the fantastic feedback received so far, we met with Jennifer Saunderson, who is on a three month secondment as Acting Sister in the Focus on Living Centre, and Clare O’Toole, Focus on Living Centre Staff Nurse.

Jennifer and Clare said:

“The service was set up at the beginning of April and we’ve had brilliant feedback about the service so far. Patients have told us that the Hospice is a really relaxing environment, and they feel really cared for when they’re with us, which is typically for 6-8 hours. In that time, they have lunch and as well as their treatment, they’re offered a full holistic assessment, supported by our nurses and multi-disciplinary teams including our complementary therapists and physiotherapists. By coming to the Hospice for this treatment, patients also hear about all our other services they can benefit from, which they might not have known about otherwise.

“As well as the patient benefit, it’s a brilliant new service for us, filling an unmet gap in services and giving us an opportunity to dispel myths about hospice care to a new group of patients.”
