We are asking for your help to raise the £20,000 needed to fund our adults and children’s music therapists for a further 12 months. Here’s why your donation could do wonderful things…

Music therapy has been offered in our children and young adult's service for the past 5 years, thanks to our partnership with Nordoff-Robbins, the UK’s largest music therapy charity and generous funders like our wonderful friends at BBC Children in Need.

The children who use our service, and their parents, tell us that music therapy helps them to express their feelings, to engage with others and to feel happier and more positive. In 2020, music therapy was introduced as a pilot project to our adult hospice and we hoped it would have a similar effect. We were not disappointed. In a year when our clinical and social care teams were recording very high levels of depression, anxiety and loneliness amongst our patients and carers, music therapy helped almost all of the people who engaged with the service to improve their mood.

Since its introduction, music therapy has had a significant, positive impact on the mental health and emotional wellbeing of our adult patients and their families. Some have been able to express and release emotions when words were too hard to find and those who felt isolated have reconnected with loved ones through music. Many have used music as a means of remembering happier times and others have rediscovered joy and hope they thought was lost.

In short, music therapy has become a key piece in the jigsaw of care we offer our patients. But as it’s funded on a year by year basis, its future is never guaranteed.

Your gift will make such a difference to our hospice family. Please help us to reach our target of £20,000 this spring and secure this much-loved and needed service for a further 12 months.

Thank you, so much, for your kind support of our work, our patients and our families.

Target: £20,000

Total raised: £37,000

Thank you so much for your support

"I think music in itself is healing. It’s an explosive expression of humanity. It’s something we are all touched by. No matter what culture we’re from, everyone loves music."
