St Oswald’s has triumphed at the 2018 Charity Retail Awards by bagging the Innovation and Technology in Charity Retail award for our Shop Takeover scheme.
The scheme, which invites businesses to ‘takeover’ one of our 25 regional shops for the day, was originally inspired by a one-off corporate enterprise challenge which aimed to raise as much money as possible for St Oswald’s by asking teams of employees from the same company to compete against each other. Since then, the scheme has enjoyed huge expansion.
With a selection of traditional charity shops and specialist outlets, we offer participants a personalised experience with a bespoke package tailored to their needs. The takeover scheme immerses participants in all areas of shop management including; stock generation, merchandising, window displays and promotions and St Oswald’s sets ambitious fundraising targets with an online scoreboard to track success.
Businesses can even ‘takeover’ more than one shop and pit teams of colleagues against each other in an ‘Apprentice’ style challenge. Many companies use the scheme as a team building exercise or as a charity day. The scheme has so far attracted a range of top businesses including; Proctor and Gamble, Lloyds TSB, Sage, UtilityWise, intu, Ethicon and Wellburn Care Homes.
Anita Ball, Director of Income and Marketing at St Oswald’s, said:
We are absolutely delighted to have received this award. It means an enormous amount to us and is fantastic recognition of the hard work our staff and volunteers from across St Oswald’s have contributed to this initiative. The scheme has allowed us to increase our profit and footfall, generate new stock, raise awareness of the work St Oswald’s does and to build new and exciting partnerships with our corporate supporters. Our award win has emphasised how integral the scheme has been to St Oswald’s in building relations and helping our Fundraising and Retail teams meet their objectives, but has also given us a big confidence boost to continue to be innovative and look at how we can continue to grow this scheme in the years ahead.
