St Oswald’s Hospice has a rare vacancy for a Specialty Grade / Locally Employed Doctor based at the hospice in Newcastle upon Tyne. This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience in the field of palliative care.

The successful candidate will be mainly involved within the Adult Unit, within the Inpatient Unit and Day Services. In addition providing clinical care and advice to the Children and Young Adults Unit, is an essential element of all our Specialty/LED grade posts with supervision and support provided.

This role has an out of hour’s commitment with a 1 in 5 on-call Rota. On- call is from home, first on, for the Adult Inpatient and Children and Young Adults Units plus telephone advice to health care professionals.

Post holders will participate in audit and teaching including the monthly Audit meeting. There are twice-monthly journal clubs held in conjunction with the Newcastle Hospitals and Marie Curie Centre and in-house education, as well as CPD-accredited bi-monthly meetings of the Northern Regional Palliative Care Physicians Group.

A confident, persistent, flexible, and adaptable person who thrives on challenges and variety you should be able to cope with a busy workload and working unsupervised whilst able to ask for guidance and support as required.  You will be skilled in working in a multidisciplinary team, able to communicate with a wide range of colleagues and patient groups and manage your own caseload.  Experience of working with Children and Young adults would be an advantage.
