Reference: Communications and Marketing Officer (Retail) - 30 - 37.5 hours per week

  • Are you a natural marketer who is buzzing with ideas?
  • Can you whip up a creative communications plan that will get our retail messages seen and heard?
  • Could you be the newest addition to our growing Communications and Marketing team?

“Busy. Brilliant. The Best.”

That’s how people have described our team.

And now, we’re looking for an amazing marketer who can promote St Oswald’s Hospice Retail and its associated campaigns – with the ultimate objective of bringing in vital income to support St Oswald’s Hospice charity.

We have 24 charity shops, including some you may not expect (like Bridal and Posh Frocks by St Oswald’s, Boutique by St Oswald’s, book and furniture stores), plus a growing online presence including eBay, and some great income generating campaigns like our annual Tree-Cycle Scheme and House Clearances.

You’ll work across two teams (the role sits in our Communications and Marketing team, but you’ll work daily with Retail colleagues) – so building relationships and confident communications are key to success in this role.  Your retail colleagues will come to you for ideas and you’ll take the lead in planning and delivering their relevant communications.

This could be the perfect role for you if you love marketing and have an interest (or experience) in retail and sustainable shopping – and more importantly, you want your work to make a real difference for people like our patients and their families.

As our Retail Communications and Marketing Officer, your days will be filled with seeking out stories, creating content for a range of audiences and ensuring people know about St Oswald’s Hospice Retail and our campaigns.

You’re a real wordsmith and will love building campaign messages, writing case studies, press releases and generally communicating all our retail news to internal and external audiences. You’ll enjoy writing for a variety of on and offline channels, (intranet, newsletters, emails, posters, leaflets, social media channels, website and media).

Excited?

Great! We’d love to hear from you if you’re…

✔ Empathetic and caring – with great communication and relationship building skills

✔ An experienced communications/marketing/copywriting pro – with a portfolio of at least two years’ relevant work you’d proudly talk to us about

✔ An enthusiastic ‘doer’ – you thrive in the buzz of a busy and varied environment and can ‘keep calm and carry on’ when deadlines are tight

Many people are unsure about working in a hospice – but behind our doors you’ll find much joy, laughter and happiness (along with inevitably a few tears). You’ll also find a warm, welcoming and supportive work environment – within an organisation and team of people who really care about you. We have great benefits and access to a wide range of education and development opportunities.
