16 & 17 May 2020
Whitehaven to Tynemouth
Who can take part?
What is involved?
You will cycle over 140 miles to complete the Coast 2 Coast challenge in two days. Participants will start in Whitehaven along the west coast of Cumbria before cycling 65 miles through the North Pennines; here you’ll find yourself surrounded by a unique landscape of moorland, hills, rivers and waterfalls. Your day ends with a whizz downhill into Alston, where you’ll stay overnight.
After a well-rested evening, day two begins. Cycling through the Pennines you will experience some of the highest points of the route, with a mixture of terrains and surfaces make the first half of the day challenging, but worth it. You will tackle the last of the big climbs, and then spend the afternoon mainly on traffic free cycle ways and quiet roads before arriving at Tynemouth. Here you can enjoy some fish and chips, a walk along the pier, or simply choose to go home and rest after completing such an classic challenge.
