Elmer chair is a winner for St Oswald's thanks to ScS
ScS, sofa carpet specialist, have raised over £8,000 for North East charity St Oswald’s Hospice, through their sponsorship of an Elmer the Elephant statue and a competition to win a patchwork chair as part of Elmer’s Great North Parade.
The hospice has a longstanding relationship with ScS and the furniture retailer has supported the charity for over 20 years, with the money raised by ScS’ Elmer sponsorship going to the Children’s Service at St Oswald’s.
On top of the sponsorship, ScS also had two bespoke Elmer the Elephant-themed chairs donated by furniture manufacturer Lebus to raise money for St Oswald’s Hospice. One of the chairs was sold at The Big Elmer Charity Auction in November, raising a huge £2,200. The other chair was up for grabs in a competition for anyone who unlocked ScS’s Fab Nelly statue (who was on show in Seaburn, Sunderland) using the official Elmer app.
I’m thrilled to have won the Elmer chair. I did the full Great North Elmer trail with my 5 year old daughter Lila and we loved getting to explore and follow the trail. The chair is so bright and colourful – Lila can’t wait for it to be pride of place in our living room!
A big elephant sized thank you to ScS
Marie Liston, Corporate Services Director at ScS, who is also the Chair of the hospice, said “St Oswald’s Hospice is a fantastic charity that does great work for patients across the North East, as well as their families. I have been a volunteer with St Oswald’s Hospice for over 20 years and have had the honour of being Chair since 2018. When the opportunity came up for ScS to be part of the Great North Elmer trail I was very excited as it’s a great opportunity for ScS to support a charity from the North East where we are based. I’d also like to thank Lebus for designing and making the two chairs – they have helped us make a big difference."
Jane Hogan, Elmer’s Great North Parade project lead said “It was fantastic to work with ScS as an Elmer sponsor throughout the trail and we were thrilled when they commissioned and donated a fantastic patchwork chair to sell at our Big Elmer auction. It had proven very popular when it went out and about at venues during the trail, so we are not at all surprised to see it snapped up for a massive £2,200 at the auction. This money will directly support the work of our Children’s Service, so we are so grateful to the team at ScS for their support.”
