Throughout the year we hold special ‘Ozzy Days’ for bereaved children.
Ozzy Days are for children and young people aged from 5 - 15 years whose parent, sibling or other loved one has received care from St Oswald’s.
Irene Mothersill, our Bereavement Services Co-ordinator said:
“It’s known that bereaved children benefit from sharing their feelings and experiences with other children in a similar position as this reduces their sense of isolation. They often don’t have the opportunity to talk about their memories or feelings so Ozzy Days give them that ‘safe place’ to do so if they wish.”
Our Ozzy Days are facilitated by our Bereavement Team but also involve other trained staff and volunteers from across the Hospice.
Using arts, crafts, music and storytelling, we work with the children to help them to express thoughts and feelings associated with illness and the death of their loved one.
