We were ‘wheely’ delighted to receive £1,406.19 from a group of local Northumberland supporters earlier this year. The 2017 Ponteland Wheelbarrow Race, held annually every New Years Day, asks competitors to pair up, with one passenger and one driver, and undertake a one mile race through Ponteland starting from the Blackbird Inn. 52 pairings took part in the race including St Oswald’s very own Senior Chef, Dave Taylor.
Our Community Fundraiser, Danielle Callender, said:
A huge thank you to Ponteland Rugby Club, Ponteland 41 Club and The Blackbird Inn for organising the race and choosing St Oswald’s as one of the beneficiaries. Thank you also to the local businesses who sponsored the barrows and to all of our volunteers and supporters on the day. It’s wonderful to be part of such an amazing community spirit, kick starting the New Year with a traditional and a bit of fun competition. St Oswald’s could not provide the high quality care we do without the brilliant support of local people and businesses that are willing to give up their time in order to organise fantastic fundraising events. The money raised will make an enormous difference to the lives of local people. This has been a fantastic start to 2017!
