Day Hospice

Day Hospice is a nurse managed unit, offering respite and support during the day.

Patients can relax and enjoy spending time with others; learn new skills; undertake arts and crafts and take part in our relaxation or exercise classes.

Meanwhile, members of our specialist nursing team spend time informally monitoring the patient’s condition and will report any changes or difficulties back to their referrer.

During each visit, the patient can also benefit from the services of our Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Complementary Therapists, Social Workers and Chaplaincy.

Day Hospice facilities are available from Tuesday to Friday, between 10.00am and 3.00pm. All meals and refreshments are provided free of charge and transport can be provided.

“During the winter months I’m not able to get out very much so coming to Day Hospice is often the highlight of my week. There’s always something going on if the patients want to get involved. I’ve benefited from physiotherapy, reflexology and reiki. I also enjoy going on the trips out. Last year I went Christmas shopping to the Metrocentre and to Whitley Bay for ice cream. Both very small things to most but opportunities like this make a real difference to the lives of patients.”
